Week 2:

Glucose molecule 3D

Glucose molecule

Molecular Formula= C6H12O6

Molar Mass= 180.16 g/mol-1

Glucose is a monosaccharide that can also be called dextrose. Glucose is a a simple sugar and the most important one at that. It occurs around animal tissue and mostly in plants. It's the major source of energy for the body and it cirulates all around the body. In the body, the normal concentration of glucose is around 0.1%. People suffer from diabetes because they have too much glucose in their bodies, the normal concentration becomes higher. Glucose is processed in the body through a process called metabolism. In the process, some nitrogen comounds, water and carbon dioxide are produced.

Glucose is very important to humans. It is the main cause of diabetes. This happens because of having the normal concentration higher than it should be, but we also shouldnt have it lower. When it is too low it is called hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia causes many symptoms. Some of the symptoms are nervousness, coma, cool skin, confusion, and headache. This is when the cells do not and cannot fumtion as should be, normally.

Here's a Youtube video that can help you understand how diabetes works and how glucose enters the cells of bodies.

Week 1:

Dioxin Molecule

Another view of Dioxin molecule

Molecular Formula: C4H4O2
Molar Mass: 84.07 g/mol
Boiling Point: 75 C / 348 K

Dioxin it is a group of chemicals that contain hydrogen, chlorine, carbon, and oxygen. It also is a toxic, it is created by the combination of heat and chorine. Dioxin is a carcinogenic compound, which means that it tends to produce cancer. Obviously, this molecule is not helpful to humanity, but it is created by human activity. Dioxin is used to create other compounds as well.
A famous case that shows how dioxin was toxic and was included in a compound is in the Seveso disaster. In this disaster, the highest known exposure to 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin resulted in Italy.
